Blogging tools in Fedora

As i was trying to set up a blogg for me to use with both personal and fedora related content, i was also on the lookout for a desktop client to use with the system. The results was rather disappointing, but i will make a short note of it for the rest of the world to see.

The systems i tried against was for the most part blogger.com. As a side note, the reason i didnt choose wordpress or blogs.fedoraproject.org is that i don't feel that the systems where configurable enough looks-wise, and therefor did not care to use those systems. I might have just missed an option, who knows.

I did a search and found, to my surprise, only two gtk-based Blogging-clients. One was BloGTK and the other was gscribble. Gscribble wouldn't work with blogger, all thou that seems too be underway.

As for BloGTK, the client is kind of buggy. Still it is quite Old (1.1), at least the one found in the repoes. It only works on the old blogger API, and that means i cant write titles, or add tags. To be fair, BloGTK is out in Version 2.0, and i tried that one too. It has support for a newer blogger protocol, but it still didn't solve the tag problem.

In conclusion, the gtk-blogger-client deal seems weak in Fedora ATM, so i guess i have to stick with the old web UI. Also, First post on fedora planet!? Yay me!

  1. If you're not very particular on using GTK, try Blogilo. It works fine with Blogger, except when you try to have images in your blog post.

  2. Sorry for the accidental delete. Blogger apparently bugged on me. But to the commenter: I will try Blogilo, it looks quite good. Only thing is i have to use KDEwallet authentication now to.

  3. I use scribefire, a firefox plugin, and it's worked quite well for me so far. Having F8 as a "write a blog post!" hotkey has also made me blog considerably more than I did pre-scribefire.

  4. The hotkey thing sounds quite nice. I Would have liked something that accessible on my desktop too, but unfortunately i am not a big fan of Firefox. =)
